Feminuity Branding

Feminuity is an organization that assesses and advises companies on their Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy. I worked with them to redesign their logo, create an offerings guide and a Keynote deck.

How might we…

  • better visualize the correct pronunciation of Feminuity?

  • explain Feminuity’s purpose and process visually?

  • achieve impact with less in a Keynote?

Logo

Feminuity’s main concern was people pronouncing their name wrong, so they wanted a new logo that could help with correct pronunciation.

The concept for the final logo is a play on how the dictionary splits words into syllables. The idea behind the dictionary style was not only a tool for pronunciation, but also inspired by Feminuity’s eagerness to add their own meaning to ‘feminuity’ to differentiate it from ‘femininity’. It is also an homage to the work that Feminuity does to help companies learn the meaning of diversity, inclusion and belonging.

We decided to split the word into three parts despite the word having five syllables. I chose this style of split to divide the word into shorter decipherable portions, forcing the reader to slow down, without making the logo too wide with a five-syllable split.

There is an emphasis on the ‘nuity’ portion of the word to distinguish it from the ‘ninity’ portion of ‘femininity’. The dictionary-style square brackets are preserved in the favicon as well. We decided to restrict the aqua colour to the elements of the logo that don’t interfere with reading, as this colour does not pass the accessibility contrast checker on a white background.

The font used is Lato Semibold, edited slightly to add a more uniform weight to the shape of the letters. Specifically, the ‘f’ is edited in its top curve, position and length of its horizontal stroke to differentiate it from the ‘f’ in Facebook’s branding.

Offerings Guide

Feminuity asked me to create a 3-pager of their services for potential clients. They provided the copy and I edited it slightly to fit the design I created on Adobe Illustrator. This guide applies Feminuity’s new branding.

Keynote Deck

Based on Feminuity founders’ presentation notes, I created data visualization to summarize their points. I also designed this Keynote presentation to work in conjunction with Apple’s VoiceOver, so that a synopsis of the notes will be read to anyone using VoiceOver. I also designed the presentation to be viewed best in a dark room, meeting the contrast standards on the accessibility contrast checker. See a sample of the Keynote slides below.
